 Graduate Students:

IMSD Program at Wayne State University is designed to increase the number and persistence of ethnic minority graduate students in Ph.D. programs in biomedical and behavioral sciences and to enhance their career development skills for  successful transition to academic/research professions.

Program Benefits:

  • Financial support (salary of at least $ 20,000/yr plus tuition and health insurance) up to 2 years
  • Travel support to attend national meetings
  • Research with world class investigators in biomedical and behavioral sciences
  • Individualized mentoring and career advice from faculty as well as program administrators
  • Career development counseling
  • Professional skills development counseling through IMSD Program seminar series
  • Guidance in writing and critiquing a manuscript at various stages of development
  • Guidance in writing and submitting  Pre-doctoral Fellowship proposal (F-31 National Research Service Award)
  • Guidance in applying and preparing for postdoctoral positions
  • Preparation for interviewing for Post-doctoral position
  • Develop teaching skills as a tutor/mentor to undergraduate students (limited additional financial support provided)
